 MS-DRGs and Other IPPS Issues 

 On Thursday, October 25, 2007, at the 2007 QualityNet Conference, Pat Brooks, RHIA, Senior Technical Advisor in the Hospital Ambulatory Policy Group, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, gave a presentation titled “MS-DRGs and Other IPPS Issues.” During this session, Ms. Brooks: 

• Described how the new MS-DRG system was developed;
• Noted important differences between the CMS DRGs and MS-DRGs;
• Discussed the new requirement concerning hospital-acquired conditions, and assigning and submitting Present On Admission (POA) indicators; and 
• Provided an update on ICD-10.
